Carol writes screenplays, stage
plays, radio plays, children’s books and poetry. A
children’s play based on Hans Christian Andersen was produced in
2005 and she won the reader’s challenge in The New Writer
Magazine in 2006.
Her latest success was coming
second place in the Script 1 screenwriting competition in conjunction
with the International Screenwriters Festival in Cheltenham in 2008. “Receiving
my prize from Mike Leigh was an honour”. She
currently has two film scripts under consideration with producers.
Carol also co-writes with
another local writer and belongs to a group of writers who have written
three radio plays which have been aired locally, one of which was
converted to a stage play and came fourth in a play competition in
association with Stroud Theatre Company.
Carol is a member of a local
filmmaking group Clearwell Films, Gloucester Media Group, the Phoenix
Theatre in Ross on Wye and the film makers network Shooting People.
Researching her family history
has been another challenge. She has managed to trace the
Sheppards (who originated from Dorset and Hampshire) back to about
1850. Tracing her German ancestors on her mother’s side has
been much more difficult.
Despite Carol’s farm
upbringing she prefers not to get up early and avoids milking whenever
possible.
